Nick arrived at Sara’s house early the following day. He rang her doorbell a few times, but there was no answer. Right then, he knew that Sara overslept. She was definitely a big sleeper. Knowing where Sara kept an extra key, he reached over the doorframe and brought down a brass key. He let himself in her house and then went up the stairs. Sara’s bedroom door was closed slightly and he peeked into her room. Sure enough, she was asleep on her queen-sized bed.
Slowly, Nick walked over to her and whispered in her ear.
"Come on, Sleepy Head, wake up," he said softly.
She rolled over on her back and was initially surprised to see Nick early in the morning.
Then she remembered that they were going to the airport. Looking over to her clock, she saw that she had a little more than half an hour to get ready.
"I’m glad that you’re here to wake me up," Sara said in the mist of yawning.
"I just wanted to make sure that you were ready," Nick laughed as he put a piece of her brown hair back into place.
"Thanks. I’ll be right out…I just need to take a quick shower and I’ll be ready," Sara told him, getting off her bed.
Nick laughed.
"What?" she turned around.
"A quick shower?" he joked.
Sara rolled her eyes in sarcasm and closed the door to the bathroom.
Before going to the airport, Becki and Drew picked up Megan at her house. He helped Megan put her luggage in the trunk of the car and opened the door for her to the back.
"I’m glad that you made it," Becki told her best friend as Drew started the engine.
"I’m glad that you talked me into coming. It’ll be fun," Megan smiled.
"Yeah, I know what you mean," Becki turned to Drew and grinned at him.
He smiled back at her and looked back on the road.
Soon, the three arrived at the airport. They headed over to the American Airlines counter and saw Justin and Ashley there waiting.
"Hey, guys," Drew greeted them.
"Hey," Justin and Ashley said.
"Where are the rest of the guys?" Drew asked.
"Obviously not here yet, Drew," Becki cut in before anyone answered.
Drew glared at her sarcastically. Becki smiled back at her boyfriend. Putting down their bags, the three that had just arrived at the airport sat down across from Justin and Ashley.
The group talked for a little while longer and then Jeff, Charlene and Jessica all arrived.
"Where’s Nick?" Jeff asked to no one in particular.
"Good question…Sara’s probably holding up at her house," Ashley said, laughing at the fact that her friend was a big sleeper.
Just then, an announcement came over the speaker system. "Flight 74 to Burlington will be boarding in five minutes. Please be at Gate 30 as soon as possible."
"Let’s just hope that they’ll be here soon," Drew sighed.
Within a few minutes, the group finally saw Nick and Sara run through the doors of the airport.
"Where were you two?" Drew asked after Nick and Sara stopped in front of them.
"This girl right here," Nick pointed to Sara, "overslept, that’s why we’re late."
"Well, at least you are here. We really have to board the plane," Charlene said.
Everyone picked up their bags and walked over to the gate to board the airplane.
After a little more than a couple of hours, the plane reached its destination in Vermont.
The group claimed their luggage and went to rent three cars to drive to the cabin, which was about half an hour from the airport.
Jeff, Charlene and Jessica filled one car. Drew, Becki and Megan filled another. For the last car, Justin, Ashley, Nick and Sara were in it.
Snow surrounded the cabin like none of them had ever seen before. Coniferous trees appeared all along the route to the cabin. Cold air hit them as they piled out of the car. They carried their massive luggage one by one into the large log cabin quickly to get out of the coldness of Vermont.
