"What are you guys planning?" Charlene asked suspiciously.
It was the day after 98 Degrees returned home to their friends and family. They had asked their closest friends to meet them at Jeff and Nicks house.
Jeff smiled at his best friend.
"Which one of you would like to start?" Jeff looked at the other guys.
All the girls looked at the guys, waiting for one of them to say a word.
"Fine, Ill do it," Drew said after a short while. "Well, weve missed you guys so much," he stared at Becki in particular, "and we just wanted to take you guys somewhere to let you guys know how much we appreciate all of you guys."
"Where is somewhere?" Sara asked.
"Theres this cabin that my uncle owns up in Vermont and he said that he would let us stay there for a week away from everything," Justin explained.
"Are you guys serious?" Becki gasped.
"Of course," Drew said.
All the girls shrieked in excitement and then went to hug the guys.
"Thank you so much," Ashley said and gave Justin a kiss on the cheek.
"Youre welcome, honey. This is going to be so much fun," Justin replied.
"Yeah, definitely!"
The group remained at the house for a little longer, discussing the plans and arrangements for the next week.
Charlene and Jessica got into Charlenes jeep. They were probably as excited to go to Vermont as anyone else.
Jessica wanted to get away from her town because she was having a few problems with a couple of her friends. She just thought that maybe getting away for a week or so would give them all some distance to think about everything that had been going on.
Charlene was excited to get away because she just wanted to spend more time with Jeff. It was true that they had been best friends for a long time, but lately, she had been feeling something more than just a friendship for him. Going away with him and others would be a good time to spend more time with him and trying to figure out her feelings at the same time. No one, not even Jessica, knew that she had been feeling that way. She wanted to wait to at least make sure that it was logical for her to have such strong feelings for her best friend.
"This trip just might be the break that weve all been waiting for," Charlene spoke out loud.
Jessica turned down the volume of the CD player slightly so she could have a conversation with Charlene.
"I know what you mean," Jessica replied. "I really need to get away from everything thats been happening."
"Its gonna be good spending more time with the guys. We hardly get to see Jeff anymore and Im glad that we get to spend more time together in Vermont," Charlene sighed and drove into the parking lot of their apartment.
After driving Megan home, Drew and Becki arrived at their apartment. Since they were leaving the following afternoon, Becki was going to pack most of her clothes.
"I remember the last time we went somewhere together," Drew said as he sat on their bed. "You took forever packing."
"Drew, I cant help it its a girls thing. You wont understand," Becki grinned at him.
"Oh, I wont?" Drew said, approaching her.
Before she was able to get another word out of her mouth, Drew was right behind her. He started tickling her. She turned around and tried to stop him, but it didnt work. Both of them started to laugh hysterically and fell to the floor.
Suddenly, the phone rang.
"Stop it, Drew!" Becki started to say.
"Fine, only because the phone is ringing," Drew pouted as Becki got up.
She walked around their bed and picked up the phone.
"Hello?" Becki asked, gathering her breathe.
"Whoa, what were you two doing?" Megans voice entered Beckis ear.
"Its not like that," Becki replied, laughing at what her friend was thinking about. "So, whats up?"
"Well, its like this " Megan began to say.
Becki plopped on her bed. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothings wrong. Not really. I was just thinking that maybe I should come with you guys to Vermont."
"And why not?"
"Well, all of you who are going are like together with the guys and I feel like Ill be just an intruder" Megan explained.
"Are you kidding me?" Becki interrupted. "Youre my best friend and youre friends with Drew. Its not like the guys dont know you completely or anything like that."
"But Bec"
"No buts. If youre not going to go, I wont go either," Becki stated.
"Come on, Becki, you are going to go. Thats the end of it," Megan replied.
"Fine, if I cant talk you into going, Ill tell Drew to."
Drew looked up at Becki and wondered what was going on.
"You win!" Megan said finally.
"Good! Now go on packing," Becki laughed. "Ill see you tomorrow."
"Thanks. Bye!"
"Bye."
"What was that all about?" Drew asked curiously.
Becki explained her conversation with Megan and started to put some clothes into her suitcase.
Sara decided to get to bed earlier than usual in anticipation for the trip. Nick was going to pick her up the following morning to the airport.
She turned on her radio briefly just to listen to what was on. "This Gift" came on the radio and then she reminisced on her relationship with Nick.
The two of them had been friends for a really long time already and there had definitely been bumps along the way. It was actually pretty surprising that they were as close as they were.
Sara and Nick were involved with one another for a few years and they broke up after a big fight. If it hadnt been for 98 Degrees, maybe the two of them wouldnt have made up. "The Hardest Thing" almost described exactly what went wrong with Nick and Saras relationship. The two eventually found their way back to one another, but as friends. After connecting again, the two were closer than ever. Sara felt a twitch of jealousy when Nick got a new girlfriend, but she knew that him and her were better of as friends.
Soon, Sara fell deep into a long sleep.
