"What’s going on?" Jeff asked as Sarah slowly walked back towards the bed.

Sarah wasn’t sure what she should tell Jeff.

"Uhh…nothing, I thought that I heard something, but it was just water dropping from the facet," Sarah lied, trying not to look into Jeff’s eyes.

Jeff was suspicious, but he accepted her answer. She laid in Jeff’s arm, eyes wide opened, unable to fall asleep again after what she had just seen outside. As soon as she knew that Jeff was asleep, she got up once again to see what was going on outside of their room.

Sarah opened the door slowly and quietly, trying not to wake up anyone in the room. She stuck her head into the hall to see if anyone was there. A man in a black outfit and a black mask was walking down the hall. Immediately, Sarah shut the door and her heart was pounding against her chest. She told herself to calm down. After a short moment, the scratching sound started once again. Totally scared, she walked back to bed into Jeff’s arm.

"Sarah?"

Sarah nearly jumped out of her skin, but it was only Wendy.

"What are you doing up?" Wendy asked quietly.

"We need to talk," Sarah grabbed Wendy’s arm and led her to the bathroom.

"Wait," Wendy held up her hand. "Do you hear something?"

"Yeah, that’s what I have to talk to you about. I think that someone is trying to break into our room next door."

Wendy had a confused look on her face.

"I was up earlier and I saw someone wearing an all black outfit. Then Jeff came to get me and the guy left. But then I was there just a little while ago and whoever it was came back. I think that this person is trying to break into the other room and that’s what the whole scratching stuff is," Sarah tried to explain.

Wendy’s face had turned totally pale by the time Sarah finished telling her story.

"You don’t think that these people are trying to get to us, now, do you?" Wendy finally asked.

"I don’t know, and that’s what I’m trying to find out," Sarah admitted.

"No, I don’t think that we should be the one to be doing this. This person can easily kill us, the same way Courtney was killed."

"We don’t know if this is the same person," Sarah tried to keep her voice down.

"No, Sarah, we don’t know that, but there’s always the chance and I know that I definitely won’t want you to wind up like Courtney. Let’s just stay back and see what happens."

"Wendy, listen to me, I’m going to go with or without you."

"Fine, I’ll just come along."

The two girls mysteriously sneaked out into the hall, trying to walk to opposite direction of the man in black. Their footsteps grew faster and faster until they reached the staircase at the end of the hall.

"Okay, genius, what now?" Wendy asked sarcastically.

"We gotta see what in the world he’s trying to do to our room and if he’s really trying to break in," Sarah said, sticking her head back into the hallway.

After a couple of minutes, the mystery man got into Jen and Sarah’s room.

"Oh, no!" Wendy moaned as they saw the mystery man disappear into the room.

~*~*~Back in Wendy and Pamela’s room (where everyone else was)~*~*~

Jeff looked around the room and called out to Sarah, but there was no answer from her. She looked in the bathroom, but there was nothing either. Many different ominous thoughts began pouring into his mind.

He quietly opened the door, trying not to wake up the rest of the people and searched for Sarah up and down the hall. When he went passed Sarah and Jen’s room, he realized that the door wasn’t close completely and the light was coming out of it. He had remembered precisely that they had locked the door when they examined the room. Slowly, using the fortitude in him, he opened the door.

At the end of the hall, both of the girls gasped and ran toward the room as fast as they could. Before they reached it, they heard shattering of glass. The mystery man decided to run for his life as fast as he could. The girls thought of going after him, but it was a better idea to check on Jeff first.

Jeff laid on the floor and was covered with bruises on his face and arms. Sarah stayed in the room while Wendy went next door to get help. All of the guys rushed quickly to their friend as the girls were outside of the room, watching what was happening. Sarah and Wendy decided to go call the cops.

"What are we going to tell them?" Wendy asked as they were going back to see Jeff.

"I have no idea, but we have to tell them something. I already lied to Jeff about the whole thing earlier and I really don’t want to lie to him about it. I already feel guilty enough for what happened to him."

The two girls went back to see Jeff.

"How is he?" Wendy asked Drew.

"He’s got a bunch of black-and-blues, but he’ll be okay. He just needs a whole lot of rest in the next week or so. Do you know what happened?"

"No," Wendy lied. "Who would do something like this to Jeff?"

"That’s a good question and I don’t think any of us have the answer to it."

"Jeff, are you okay?" Sarah asked as she kneeled beside Jeff.

"Yeah, I’ll be okay," he held her hand. "Where were you earlier?"

"Uhh…"

"Come on, Sarah, tell me the truth. I was scared to death about you."

"I’m so sorry. I heard this weird scratching sound before and I went to see what was going on. I saw some guy trying to break in next door, but then you called out to me. That was lie number one. So we went back to back and then I just couldn’t sleep again, you know? So I was really tempted to go see what was going on. And I got Wendy to help me because she was awake too. We went to the end of the hall to see why he was trying to break in, but then I guess you woke up and found that I was missing – again. And then we just found you here. I’m really sorry, Jeff."

Tears started to trickle down Sarah’s face, but Jeff wiped them away softly with his fingers. Sarah went down to hug Jeff and apologized once again. When they pulled apart, Jeff gave her a kiss, telling her that he forgave her.

The paramedics arrived shortly and Officer McCormick appeared once again to everyone.

"I usually don’t see people twice in less than a few hours. Would you all like to tell me what’s going on?"

Wendy and Sarah looked at one another. The rest of the group just shook their head acknowledging the officer that they didn’t know what happened.

"Well?" Officer McCormick stared down at Wendy and Sarah.

Once again, they explained the entire story to the officer, but this time, everyone was there to hear about what happened.

"I think that you two should’ve asked for help instead of going after this guy yourselves. If he’s the person who killed Courtney earlier, you two might be in a lot of trouble. I want to bring you two down to the station for a better description of what happened tonight. The rest of you don’t have to come down," the officer finished saying and led the girls downstairs to the car.

Before they left, they glanced over at their friends sadly, prompting the rest of them to go with down with the station with Wendy and Sarah.
