98 Degrees entered the X99 studio building in preparation for their interview on the San Diego radio station. They were co-hosting the Top 10 at 10 with the DJ. It was definitely an excitement for the guys since it was their first night show in Southern California except for a show they did a few years back in Los Angeles.
They entered the studio and greeted with the DJ and the controller who answered the phones in the back.
"Okay, we're back and here's your Top 10 at 10," Jimmy, the DJ, said into his microphone and popped in the jingle for the program. "We're here tonight with one of the hottest pop bands around today, 98 Degrees!"
"Hey, what's up, San Diego? I'm Nick."
"I'm Drew."
"Justin's here."
"And I'm Jeff."
"Is that proof or what that these guys are here to hang out for the next hour? If you have any questions for the guys, call us at 1-800-493-9X99. Well, here's the number ten song for tonight, barely hanging on, Smash Mouth, 'All Star'."
Jimmy popped in the CD and played the song. Meanwhile, the guys of 98 Degrees had a little while to answer some of the phone calls off the air.
"Hi, this is X99 and this is Drew," Drew said in a funny voice into the phone that he was answering.
"Are you kidding me?" the girl exclaimed into the phone. "My name is Brianne!"
"Hi, Brianne, how are you doing?"
"Hi, I just wanted to say hi to you guys and I love your CD so much and I can't wait until your Christmas album comes out!"
"Thank you very much," Drew replied.
"I can't believe that I'm talking to you, Drew! I love you so much!" Brianne yelled excitedly into the phone.
"Thank you so much and thanks for calling!" Drew said and hung up the phone.
"Whoa, these people are really excited to have us on!" Drew said to the rest of the guys, who were also busy answering the phone.
As the end of the song approached, Jimmy got back on the air. "That was Smash Mouth with 'All Star' on number ten tonight. We'll be answering a few phone calls right now. You're on the air, Sandy."
"I love you guys so much!" Sandy exclaimed as she blasted into the radio of many in the city of San Diego.
"Well, thank you," the guys replied.
"Do you have a question for the guys, Sandy?" Jimmy asked.
"Yeah, when do you guys think the video for your next single will be coming out?" she asked nervously.
"Well, as some of you out there might already know," Jeff answered, "our next single is going to be 'The Gift', off of our Christmas album. We haven't shot the video yet, but I think it's safe to say that you should look for it on MTV in November."
"Thank you so much for the call, Sandy," Jimmy said.
Before she hung up, she yelled, "I love you Nick!"
The guys giggled a bit before the next caller got on the air. "Hi, Liza, you're on with 98 Degrees."
After a second of silence, Liza's voice popped into the studio. "Hey, guys!"
"Hi, Liza."
"My question for you guys is when do you think your next tour will be. I saw you guys a couple of times before, on the All That tour and the Heat It Up tour and I would love to see you guys again."
"Thank you for coming to see us," Justin replied. "As for the next tour, there are no definitely dates yet. We're going overseas to do a few concerts over there, but we're hoping that the next tour is going to be bigger and better than ever."
"Yeah, there isn't a big plan as of right now since we're really concentrating in getting another album out sometime early in 2000. We want to work up something that will be great with the new album," Nick added.
"Thank you for calling, Liza," Jimmy said. "I don't know if you're aware of this, but these guys are so nice that they brought a couple pairs of front row tickets with them tonight for their concert tomorrow night. Right after the countdown, we'll be giving them away. Remember to listen to the end of it. Drew, why don't you introduce our next song?"
Jimmy pressed play on the CD.
"The number nine song tonight is from the sexy Jennifer Lopez. It's her new song called 'Waiting For Tonight' on X99," Drew gave San Diego his best impression of a radio DJ.
While the guys were off the air, they went to get a few drinks.
"This is pretty cool," Drew said after a sip of the water.
"Yeah, definitely, it's been a long time since we've done a live radio show at night. We're always on those morning shows," Justin agreed.
"And you know how I hate getting up early," Nick added.
All of the guys laughed as they began to head back to the studio.
"That was Jennifer Lopez and here is 98 Degrees. Guys, why don't you talk about your new book and video?" Jimmy said.
"Well," Drew began, "our book is completely official. It's not written by someone who doesn't know us, it's actually written by us. There's a lot of info and pictures in there and I think you guys out there will like it a lot."
"And as for the home video," Jeff said, "it's footage of our concerts and our videos. I know a lot of the newer fans have written us letters telling us that they've never seen the videos for 'Invisible Man' and 'Was It Something I Didn't Say' and both of those videos are on the tape."
"Well, make sure that you guys go out and check it out. I'm sure that you guys will like it a lot," Jimmy added. "For our number eight song, it's Jessica Simpson with 'I Wanna Love You Forever'. I know you guys were on tour with her for a little while. Tell us a little about her."
"Jessica is a really good singer and we loved having her on tour with us," Nick answered. "We all knew that she will hit it big and I'm completely thrilled to see her on your countdown."
"Well, here she is with 'I Wanna Love You Forever'," Jimmy said and played the song.
While off the air, the guys answered a few phone calls again. Nothing really spectacular though. Most of them were girls who called just to say how much they loved the guys and they couldn't wait for the next album.
"We're back and that was Jessica Simpson, who toured with 98 Degrees. Speaking of 98 Degrees, they're here with us right now and they'll be here for the entire show tonight. We really want to thank you guys so much for joining us," Jimmy said.
"No problem," Justin replied. "It's been a while since we've done a live radio show at night and it's pretty cool."
"Okay, before we go to our number seven song from Lou Bega, can you guys tell us a little of your coming plans?" Jimmy asked.
"Well, we're still touring for a little while and we're going overseas, like we had mentioned already," Nick answered, "but we're doing a few concerts for radio stations and we're also doing the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York. We're also really looking forward to doing the MTV New Year Bash. That should be really fun and we can't wait to bring in the new millennium."
"Guys, remember to watch them then. Again, if you have any questions for the guys, you can call them at 1-800-493-9X99. Here's our number seven song 'Mambo #5' from Lou Bega on X99," Jimmy introduced and put in the CD.
"Hi, this is Jeff from 98 Degrees," Jeff answered the phone while he was off the air.
"Hey, Jeff, I'm Tammy and I just want to say that I can't wait to see you guys in the concert here tomorrow night. I've never seen you guys before and I can't wait!" Tammy exclaimed.
"We're glad that you're going to be there. I hope that you're like the show," Jeff replied.
"I know that I will and I can't believe that I got through!"
"Well, thanks for calling and enjoy the show tomorrow night," Jeff said and hung up.
"That was 'Mambo #5'," Jimmy said after he got back on the air. "Right now, we're going to get another phone call or two. Hi, you're on the air."
"Hi, I love you so much, Drew!" the girl exclaimed.
"Thank you!" Drew said a little uncomfortably.
"So what's your name?" Jimmy asked.
"My name is Kim and I have a question for you guys. Do you guys have girlfriends?" she asked without a hesitation.
"You guys know that question is inevitable," Jimmy said. "Let's start with you, Nick."
"I'm single right now," Nick answered.
"I was in a relationship, but that ended unfortunately," Jeff answered.
"I'm single as well," Justin answered.
"I'm sorry to say, but I'm in a relationship with someone right now," Drew replied.
Kim sighed sadly. "That's okay. Thank you so much for being on tonight for San Diego."
"You're very welcome. This is something that we all love to do and we love making people out there happy with our music," Nick replied.
"Bye!" Kim said.
"Well, that went well. So you heard it here, all the guys are single except for Drew. Drew, we don't want you to feel left out, so why don't you introduce our number six song?" Jimmy said.
"Thanks, Jimmy," Drew said sarcastically. "The number six song tonight on the Top 10 at 10 is 'Summer Girls' from LFO."
Jimmy popped the CD in the player and sat back.
"Hey, Jimmy, can you give away a pair of the tickets after this song is over?" Jeff asked.
"I thought that we were going to do it after the countdown, but if you want to, I guess we can," Jimmy replied.
"I just want to see the reaction from the fans," Jeff replied.
"Yeah, it sounds like a good idea because we're going on commercial anyway after this song," Jimmy said.
After "Summer Girls" ended, Jimmy went back on the air, "That was LFO, who is going to be on with us in a week, actually. They will be here for the Top 10 at 10. But that doesn't really matter now because we have 98 Degrees on tonight. Before we go on commercial, we want to give away one of the pair of the front row tickets that the guys gave us. So call 1-800-493-9X99 and be caller 98. Instead of giving away the tickets to the usual 99th caller, we're giving it to the 98th caller in honor to 98 Degrees."
While of the air, the controller in the back answered the phone calls and counted from the first caller to the 97th. Justin went to the back and answered the 98th caller.
"Hello?"
"What caller am I?" the girl asked excitedly.
"The 98th caller!" Justin replied.
The girl screamed right into the phone and Justin had to pull the phone away from his ear.
"Hello?" the girl asked after she regained her composure.
"Yeah, I'm still here and you're like number 98," Justin laughed.
"Did I just win the tickets to see 98 Degrees tomorrow night?" she asked.
"Not only did you win tickets, they're front row tickets as well. What's your name?" Justin asked.
"Lisa Marie."
"Well, Lisa Marie, we're glad to have you with us tomorrow night."
"What do you mean 'us'? Who am I talking to?"
"This is Justin-"
"I love you so much Justin!" Lisa Marie exclaimed.
"Thank you. We can't wait to see you tomorrow night with one of your friends."
"Thank you so much. I love you!"
"Don't hang up because they need to get your information in the back," Justin said and handed the phone to the controller.
