Ding Dong!

Jess ran to her door after the doorbell rang. She opened the door and looked into the familiar blue eyes of her boyfriend, who was standing on the other side of the door.

"Jessy!" he ran up to her and picked her up.

"Nicky? You’re really home?" Jess asked as she stood there in shock.

"Yes, it’s me!"

Jess stood there in shock and then gave Nick a hug. "I’ve missed you so much, Nick."

"So have I! And now I’m home! You have to catch me up on everything," he said with a lot of excitement in his voice.

"Actually, there’s something I need to tell you," Jess told him seriously.

The two of them entered her living room and they sat down on the couch.

"What’s with all the boxes?" Nick looked around the room.

"I’m moving away, to Ohio," Jess said in one breath.

"What do you mean?" Nick asked her nonchalantly.

"I didn’t know how to tell you when you were all the way in Europe," Jess said sadly.

"I called you a lot of times and you didn’t mention it once to me," Nick retorted.

"I didn’t know how to break it to you over the phone. I don’t think that we should see each other anymore."

"We’ll make us work," Nick took her hand in his. "I was away for a couple of months to Europe and we got through that okay. We’ll be okay."

"No, Nicky. I love you, but it’s just not the same. I won’t be in Florida. Everytime you go home, I’ll be a thousand miles away in Ohio. It’s just won’t be the same," Jess started to sob.

"Jessy, listen to me. I love you and I will still love you when you are in Ohio. So we won’t see one another all the time, but I promise you that I will visit and we will talk all the time."

"Nick, I’ve thought of all the possibilities ever since I found out, and there’s just no way this will work out. please respect this for me."

Nick looked at her in the eye as he felt tears welling up in his own. He turned around and out of the living room as a tear fell, followed by another, and another.

Jess turned around for one last glimpse of Nick Carter.

¤¤¤ A month later ¤¤¤

Jess sat on her bed, flipping through some magazines. Her phone started to ring and she turned to answer it.

"Hello?" Jess said.

"Hey, Jess," Jess’ best friend, Lisa, said, "you have to look at page 39 in Teen People."

"Why?" Jess asked as she picked up Teen People.

"It said that Brian and his girlfriend broke up. It looks like I still have a chance with him," Lisa joked.

Jess turned to the page and sure enough, it stated that Brian Littrell and his long time girlfriend had broken up. Also on the same page, however, it stated that Nick Carter had a new girlfriend. There was also a picture of the two of them together.

"Hey, Jess…" Lisa broke into Jess’ thoughts.

"Yeah?" Jess brought herself back after looking at Nick’s picture. "Sorry, I was just reading the stuff about the Backstreet Boys."

"Since we both love them so much, we have to go see them when they come to Ohio or something," Lisa suggested.

"Yeah, I guess so. Hey, Lis, I gotta go now, I’ll call you later, okay?"

"Yeah, sure, bye."

The two of them hung up the phone and Jess sat on her bed staring at the picture of Nick and his new girlfriend.

¤¤¤ Two months later ¤¤¤

"Come on, Jess, we have to go to this concert," Lisa exclaimed into the phone. "You love the Backstreet Boys as much as I do and we talked about this a while ago."

"I know, but I think I’ll pass on this one," Jess protested as she thought of Nick.

"I’ll make this fun. Besides, why would you want to see this perfectly fine ticket go to waste?" Lisa reasoned with her.

"All right, fine, Lis, you win. I’ll go so you’ll stop bugging me about this," Jess rolled her eyes.

"I knew you’d go!"

¤¤¤ The following night ¤¤¤

Lisa and Jess arrived at the concert about half an hour before it was going to start. They headed inside and to their seats, which was the first seats in the first row of the balcony level.

The concert began and all of the fans ran wild, including Lisa and Jess. Soon enough, each Boy got out on stage to do their solos.

Lisa snapped many pictures of Brian as he sang "That’s What She Said".

After Brian exited the stage, Nick slowly emerged to the top of the stage.

The music started to play and Nick spoke into the microphone. "I would like to dedicate this song to Jess. If you’re here, I just want you to know how much I love you."

A tear slowly trickled down Jess’ cheek.

"Are you okay?" Lisa asked beside her.

"Yeah," Jess smiled lightly and listen attentively to the lyrics of "Heaven In Your Eyes".

"Just because he pledged his love for some girl named Jess, doesn’t mean he was really talking about you."

Jess just nodded. The lyrics were so beautiful and mesmerized her completely. She looked down at the man that she had been in love with for over two years.

The concert continued for about another hour or so and then the crowd started to disperse.

¤¤¤ Later that night ¤¤¤

Jess had arrived home and gone up to her room. She sat down on her bed and remembered all the happy times she spent with Nick, as well as his performance that night at the concert.

Suddenly, she heard pebbles hitting her window. She got off her bed and looked out the window. All she was able to see was a figure in the shadow.

"Who’s there?" Jess yelled down in a low voice.

"Just come down," she heard.

Trusting her instincts, Jess ran down her stairs and out the front door. As soon as she got out, she saw Nick there, holding a single red rose in his hands.

Jess looked at the man that she had been in love with and a tear fell from her eye. Nick slowly approached her and embraced her in his arms. Jess started to cry onto Nick’s shoulder.

After they pulled apart, he handed her the rose. "This is for you."

She took the rose in her hand. "How did you ever find me?"

"Let’s just say I have connections," he grinned. "Were you at the concert tonight?"

"Yeah, it was great," Jess commented and looked away.

"What’s wrong?" Nick asked concernedly.

"What does you coming here mean for us?"

"I love you and it was the worst thing that I could’ve done walking out that day. I’ve been so miserable without you, Jessy," Nick explained.

"Yeah, then how come I saw you in a magazine with your new girlfriend?" Jess retorted.

"Jess, you should know better than to believe every words that magazines write. Believe me, there’s no one else but you."

Jess smiled at him lightly.

"Would you care to dance?" Nick asked spontaneously.

"What do you mean? There’s no music."

Nick wrapped his arms around Jess’ waist and started to sing "Heaven In Your Eyes". Jess wrapped her arms around his neck and they swayed to the song.

I need you tonight
I need you right now
I know deep within my heart
It doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right
Cuz I see heaven in your eyes

"Jess, I love you more than anything in this world," Nick whispered in her ear.

"I love you too, Nickolas Gene Carter," Jess rested her head on his shoulder as they continued to sway to the music.
